Fresno State Football Hosts Pro Day

FRESNO, Calif. – On Monday, March 9th, Fresno State Football welcomed back 19 former Bulldogs for its annual Pro Day.

Similar to the NFL Combine that takes place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, a Pro Day allows draft-eligible players a chance to show off their skills in front of NFL scouts before the NFL Draft.

Of the 19 players that attended, some of the notable names included quarterback E.J. Warner, running back Elijah Gilliam, defensive backs Alzillion Hamilton and Cam Bracha, with kicker Dylan Lynch also making an appearance.

Every player that attended will be hoping that Monday’s performance is enough to increase the interest that NFL teams have in them before the NFL Draft in April.

Fresno State Removes Cesar Chavez Statue

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State has removed a statue of Ceaser Chavez from it’s campus. The removal of the statue comes in the wake of allegations of sexual abuse of young girls made against Chávez.

In less than a week after a New York Times investigation brought these stories to light, the statue was first covered on Wednesday, March 18th, with black tarps. It was then boxed up on the 19th, and by the morning of Friday the 20th, it was removed.

The statue had been featured as part of the Peace Garden on the campus of Fresno State. Other statues in the garden honor Gandhi, Jane Adams, and Martin Luther King Jr.

The 9-foot-tall bronze statue had been on display since March 1996, and 30 years later, it has now been removed.

Fresno State Softball Drops Weekend Series Against UNLV

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State Softball lost two out of three games against the Rebels of UNLV.

The series started with a win on Friday night, the ‘Dogs would strike for two runs in the first inning, and by the end, they would tally nine runs for a 9-3 victory. Senior Jamie Hicks and Sophomore Mallory Vancleave would combine for 5 hits and knock in 4 of the team’s runs. In the circle, Senior Lauryn Carranco went the distance for a complete game, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and striking out 7 Rebels.

On Saturday, the Rebels would strike for 5 runs before recording an out, and despite a late push by Fresno State, the Rebels would go on to win 5 to 4. Sunday was a back-and-forth game, but it was the Rebels who would capitalize on scoring chances more, and at the end of 7 innings, UNLV would win 5 to 3.

On the year Frenso State falls to 14-15 overall, and 3-6 in Mountain West play. The ‘Dogs will make the trip to the Bay Area for a 3-game set against the Spartans of San Jose State beginning on Thursday.
